Ask the kids to help in the home.
Organization is the key to everything in the running of a smooth household. I ordered a calculator from a business many years ago. After two months, we still had not received an account so I drove into town to see them. After looking at the owner’s desk littered with papers, without a file in site, I understood why we never received the account. To be honest, we never paid for it, because that person should never have been in business to start with. Although it only cost ten dollars, I felt guilty for a long time. In fact, it was her fault for not being organized. Without some form of organization, especially in our home, we could all have the same problem. This is why we need to involve the whole family, even the kids. They help make the mess, so they need to find simple ways to reduce the workload. They soon learn that the quicker they do their jobs the longer they have to play or visit their friends. Start by giving the kids different sized stacker drawers. These are ideal to keep similar sized toys together. The beauty of the drawer is the child can take one out and play with its contents in another room. They then have to return the toys back to their room. Hang one of those plastic chains from the ceiling in a corner of the kid’s rooms. Attach all those cuddly bears, and stuffed animals taking up the majority of kids bedrooms to this, it will look great and takes up less room. Use a little incentive, like pocket money. Draw up a “to do list” give each job a money value of ten or twenty cents. If the job on the list is not completed, that is a deduction. If a job is completed, it’s ticked and at the end of the week, they can spend or save their money as they wish. Not only does this encourage them to keep their rooms clean it teaches them a valuable lesson for handling pocket money and saving for the things they really want. As the children grow older, they can help in the kitchen by setting the table. Take turns in washing the dishes. One will wash, one dries, by doing this week about they each know their job. Surprise them with a little treat every now and then. It may be a visit to the park or something to give them incentive. Go through each room and sort out the broken or outgrown toys. Put these into two boxes, one for the bin, and one to sell. Most kids will enjoy the idea of having their own garage sale, and the money they make could buy something else. Make sure you rid yourself of similar unwanted clutter. If you want the children and your home organized, then you take the initiative, make sure you set the right example for them to follow. Go on outings with the family with the time saved, like fishing or swimming at the beach. Nothing can compare to a family spending time together.
